It turns out that the who’s who of Hollywood enjoy going out to the casino just as much as the rest of us; which celebrity would you most like to challenge for a friendly game of cards? We went and found out which of the world’s rich and famous love casinos and, just for interest’s sake, which of them have been banned from casinos for life. Here goes…

Derren Brown was born in 1971, and is arguably one of the world’s most famous mentalists. His first TV show, called Mind Control, was released in the year 2000 and many more successful shows for both screen and stage followed. His daring stunts have included convincing a group of elderly retirees to steal a painting and a live game of Russian Roulette – which, yes, could have gone badly. He has been banned from casinos all over the UK for, well, counting cards and costing casinos too much money.

Ben Affleck is well-known as an actor, with roles in Good Will Hunting (1997), Armageddon (1998), Pearl Harbour (2001), Gigli (2003)… Okay, we’ll stop there. Bad example. Did you know he’s also a bit of a gambling fanatic? It turns out that he was a little too good at the Hard Rock’s tables in Vegas, which got him a lifelong ban from playing the tables. Whoops!

Paris Hilton counts as famous, though nobody is ever entirely sure why – we know there was a line of perfume and an album somewhere in the mix, plus a couple million inherited from her super-rich family. Subsequently, in 2006 Paris Hilton got herself banned from the – we kid you not – Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas after dropping a Bentley worth $175, 000 on a Poker bet – and losing. Again, whoops…

50 Cent is a high-stakes gambler and doesn’t just restrict himself to the casino: In 2015, he placed $1.6 million on Mayweather. In 2014, the rapper got called out by a fellow-rapper (called Webbie) who claimed that 50 Cent owed him a million bucks after losing a boxing wager.

Jennifer Tilly is known to many as the Bride of Chucky; you might’ve also noticed her doing some voice-over work. Her second passion, though, is cards – she’s a multiple poker tournament winner, too. You can check out her Poker Listings profile here.

Author James Patterson is a highly enthusiastic poker player who loves a game every now and then. He even makes a cameo appearance in the TV show Castle as one of Castle’s poker buddies (along with Stephen J. Cannell, Robert Weldon, Michael Connelly, Dennis Lehane and Markway). You can check it out on YouTube here.

Charlie Sheen noted in 2011 that he no longer gambles; looking at his track record we can see why. His betting habits have been just about as reckless as the rest of his life, and in early 2017 it emerged that he was involved in some seriously dodgy bets with other celebrities. Didn’t he claim he was…winning?
